Know About The Authors:

Hamilton H. Mabie

Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University since 1964, Hamilton H. Mabie earned his B.S. from the University of Rochester, M.S. from Cornell University, and Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University.
Dr. Mabie was a professor at Cornell University's Sibley School of Mechanical Engineering from 1941 to 1960. He worked at Sandia Laboratory in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from 1960 to 1964, where he was involved in nuclear weapons research and development.
Dr. Mabie's research interests include gears, torque characteristics of instrument ball bearings, environmental impacts on aluminium fatigue life, and fretting corrosion of rolling element bearings, in addition to his kinematics work. In these disciplines, he has produced and co-authored numerous technical articles. He is a certified professional engineer and an American Society of Mechanical Engineers Life Fellow.
John Wiley & Sons published the first edition of Mechanisms and Dynamics of Machinery in 1957, and the second edition in 1963, both with the late F. W. Ocvirk as a co-author. In 1975, the third edition was released, followed by a SI version in 1978. Charles F. Reinholtz is a collaborator on this fourth edition.

Charles F. Reinholtz

Since 1983, Charles F. Reinholtz has worked as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia. The University of Florida awarded him B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. He also worked as a design engineer for Burroughs Corporation's Peripheral Products Group. Since 1976, Professor Reinholtz has worked in the field of kinematics and mechanism design. He is a Sigma Xi member and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society for Engineering Education, and the American Society for Engineering Education. He is also a member of the honour societies Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma.
